Björk will be releasing a new album Utopia this November 24th. She has released two singles “The Gate” and “Blissing me”
Björk’s latest single released yesterday. Of course, I impulsively dropped what I was doing and clicked the youtube video. At the first ten words, she said I paused the video and threw my phone. She forever will be indescribably beautiful. The lyrics along with what I believe to a harp just filled my insides with this new kind of beauty that I have not yet been able to see and feel since probably her Vespertine album. Of course, I have seen her musical beauty in Biophilia and Vulnicura, however, this beauty that I am talking about is something so pure and innocent. Almost eclectic and emotional. It makes me think of love, relationship, beauty, sex, and passion. Which is pretty much the same feeling I would get when I would listen to Vespertine or the song “Stonemilker” from Vulnicura. The album Vespertine is personally one of my most favorite collective albums of Björk’s, and in this single, “Blissing Me”, I have gotten the taste again of her emotional diary
Now Björk is not for everyone, but when I was a little girl in middle school she was one of a savior’s through her music and words. That is when I bought her Family album consisting of her greatest hits. From every single songs individuality, I grew to love every single song and got to know every song, that is how much of a big nerd I was. I asked my Dad, who was the one who showed me her, to get me a bunch of her songs. He got me all. I even know the songs when she was in The Sugarcubes, KUKL, and Tappi Tikkarass.
I am so excited about her new album Utopia to release. “Blissing Me” is definitely a teaser for what we can expect from her new creation. What I will say about this song is her tenderness of her lyrics
all of my mouth was kissing him now into the air i am missing him is this excess texting a blessing or just two music nerds obsessing
he reminds me of the love in me i’m celebrating on a vibrancy sending each other mp3s falling in love to a song
This song describes two lovers playfully flirting with each other. But also the questioning of falling in love with love itself. This song is incredibly beautiful and elegant. Along with her colorful and pastel makeup and dainty blue jumpsuit. She almost resembles a flower.
I’ve listened to this song probably over 50 times since it was released. I am so thankful and excited that this album will come out in this new part of my life. I remember when Vulnicura came out it was at this disjoint in my life, a time where I didn’t care anymore. Now with this new song and offering of love, I have become more open to receive and give.
I hope those of you who like to be adventurous will listen to this song.
Give it a listen, give music a chance.
