The Drums- Abysmal Thoughts (An Album Appreciation)

This album – I have been obsessing over…

I wouldn’t call this an album review, more like an appreciation. This week I got really tired at picking music and skimming over my playlists, and what great way to fix the problem is by listening to an album, and I happened to pick The Drum’s 2017 album Abysmal Thoughts. I knew at least two songs from the album. I have listened to it entirely but that was when it first came out and I never listened to it again…until now.

I just want to say – wow. This album really pulled through for me and I think it was just what I needed to hear. This albums truly captures honestly within relationships, finding one’s sexuality and pain. Personally I’ve been researching for a future project that deals with male and female relationships (as in friend and romantically) and misconceptions between masculinity, femininity, and emotions. I felt that this album gave me a boost to hit off on this project. Also, the music MAKES me want to write more songs and learn more instruments, I wish I could be in a band and make things and share with other people the art of creativity and expression.

I love music, that is already a given if you’ve been following me. And this album really hit me hard, in a good way. It makes me want to sing and dance. Write and talk to people. Reach out and make a band and do something. I think it was the song “Heart Basel” that struck the match – and I kept listening, I wanted more. Then it was “I’ll Fight For Your Life”, in which I would not shut up singing the chorus, just ask my roommates.

I started singing in front of people and dancing in public. It feels good.

Then I literally fell head over heels at the song “Are U Fucked”, with that sexy sax in the back ground, and this weird pop 80s vibe of sadness. I love it and I don’t want to get tired of it. I hope everyone gets to feel like this.

Please listen to the album, and if you don’t like The Drums then go listen to an entire album of an artist that needs a little bit of your love. The doctor recommends! And don’t hesitate to listen to their latest release “Body Chemistry” – a taste of their new album in 2019.

I can’t really rate the songs I like just because they do a different job and my mood changes – but I’ll try my best!
