30 Day of Songs: Day #30

Day 30: A song that reminds of myself or represents me.

Hello! I am sorry I missed a day in the 30 days of Songs challenge. Yesterday I moved out of my dorm and arrived back in my hometown for the summer. I also do not have any access to internet at my house, but don’t worry I’ll manage. I always manage. It might just be difficult to post through my phone only. So again I apologize for not posting soon or recently. I have been enjoying the time I have been back at home

So this is the last day of the challenge. At least I answered all of them, I did skip a day here and there but I did answer and I had a great time at it. It was really interesting to see what songs I would pick and I tried hard not to stick to a pattern and really venture out what songs I liked. If I were to pick a song that represents me… I think I would have to go with:

Venus as a Boy by Björk

This song has so much meaning to me. This actually reminds me a lot of the years I would listen to Björk all the time everyday. I believe I have listened to every single song she has, and I’m being serious. I feel this song represents me on different levels, my innocences, my adult awakening, sexuality, love, passion, emotion, empathy, and just this weird side of me that some people fail to notice or accept.

Again I am sorry for not posting as much, I will try to get better and figure out a weekly plan.

Thank you!

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

30 Days of Songs: Day #29

Day 29: A song you remember from your childhood

Hmm hmm hmm hmm. I really don’t know or remember songs from childhood. Music was just everywhere for me. There is not really one band or artist, or song that I could name. So here is a collection of old Hollie tunes. Some of these also count as my preteen years, as that was my childhood also.

I’ve been Tired by The Pixies, Of course the Pixies are always in my heart and childhood.

It’s Oh so Quiet by Björk, my Dad showed me this song when I was little and since then I have become a huge Björk fan.

Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush, I have no idea how I heard of Kate Bush, I think my Dad showed her to me but honestly it was a random find for me and I love her voice no matter what people think.

How Soon is Now? by The Smiths, Of course 😉

Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2

Music of my childhood reminds me a lot about car rides and music blasting in the speakers. I pretty thankful for my parents for giving me the gift of such great music. Most of these songs are older than me and aren’t even in my own time era, but I love them.

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

Day 28: A song by an artist whose voice you love

Morrissey baby!! Morrissey from the The Smiths has such a lovely, sexy, somber voice. I absolutely love him and can’t get enough of him. Someday I will see him in concert.

Disappointed by Morrissey

Last of the Famous International Playboy by Morrissey , I am that boy dancing in his room

There is a Light that Never Goes Out by The Smiths

I have two of their records and I remember those summer days listening to them over and over in my room. Such sad yet heartwarming music.

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

30 Days of Songs: Day #24

Day 24: A song by a band you wish were still together

Varsity by Smith Westerns

This is a good old favorite band. Such an amazing song to  listen to. It reminds me of first love and summer. This is a beautiful song and the lyrics are so sweet. I know that one of the brothers, Cullen, went on a solo project and band. So at least he’s still singing and making music. Good Listen.

Give it a listen,give music a chance.

30 Days of Songs: Day #23

Day 23: A song you think everybody should listen to

I always want people to listen to music all the time. When I know someone and I hear I song I think they might like, I always have to let them know. Its hard to pick just one song everyone should listen to because you never know if they will like it. But people have their own opinions, likes and dislikes.

I would have to go with

Australia by The Shins

Im sorry for so many Shins song suggestions, they’re just such a great band and have been in my life a lot.

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

30 Days of Songs: Day #21

Day 21: A song you like with a person’s name in the title

Gabby by The Internet

I just heard of them about a year ago and thats when I started to really like music like this. The us of their bass and drums is just so sexy, and so is Syd’s voice. I really love the way this songs shifts in the middle into a whole other song.

And Also

Julia by The Beatles

(I couldn’t find a studio version of the video online)

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

30 Days of Songs: Day #19

Day 19: A song that makes you think about life

This is difficult. All music makes me think about life and love. And the song changes by the way I think and what is happening in my life.

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel

This song actually makes me think about my Dad a lot, and how he introduced me to a lot of music in my life.

And this one is a classic for me, an old favorite in my book.

Caring is Creepy by The Shins

This whole album makes me think about life. Such a great band and album. Their new one is pretty good too.

Everything is in the Right Place by Radiohead

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

30 Days of Songs: Day #18

Day 18: A song from the year your were born.

I would say that I’m a 90s kid, and I am a 90s kid! Born on 1997. What sucks is that I was too young to remember anything from my time. But I do know for sure that my parents would play a lot of The Pixies and Nirvana and Foo Fighters, and Björk. I really do miss the 90s, when things were a bit simple. Clothes were weird, and TV shows were great. The music was full of angst and rock, and I really do love and miss it all.

Everlong by The Foo Fighters

And of course I have to add a Pixie song. The are the band of my childhood.

Money Gone to Heaven by The Pixies

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

30 Days of Song: Day #17

Day 17: A song that you would sing as a duet with someone?

This would have to go to a lovely song from the film LA LA LAND.

A Lovely Night sung by Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone

And also their other Duet which melts my heart.

City of Stars

These songs are so amazing, the soundtrack is amazing. I really recommend those who hate and love musicals, because this movie is just perfect that no one can really hate it.

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

H

30 Days of Songs: Day #16

Day 16: A song that is a classic favorite

Why do these have to be so hard? I could just make a playlet of a classic favorite. I just want to share every possible song I could thing of. There is so many in my head that I’m starting to forget want to even put down. I have way to many favorites! Also, when I think of ‘classic favorite’, they’re mostly really old songs.

Light my Fire by The Doors

Bennie and the Jets by Elton John

If You Were Here by The Thompson Twins, comes out in the film Sixteen Candles.

My Cherie Amor by Stevie Wonder

Bicycle Race by Queen

This is not even half of what comes to mind, but here is a taste.

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

30 Days of Songs: Day #15

Haha. This is a day late, but things came up and I wasn’t able to write.

Day 15: A song you like that’s covered by another artist.

This is a hard one because there is so many songs I could think off, but I’m afraid of giving away too many artists at once. But let just list a few.

Happiness is Warm Gun covered by Joe Anderson from “Across The Universe”, original by The Beatles

If I could I would put all of the songs from this movie. This movie probably has the best Beatle covers ever. Such a beautiful movie and the production of the songs is just amazing. Listen to the full soundtrack if your interested (and love The Beatles!!!).

Stay Awhile covered by She & Him, original by Dusty Springfield

Also another one covered by She & Him

Fool’s Rush In orignal by Rube Bloom, and Johnny Mercher, exact singer is unclear. Has been covered by many artists.

I loved these covers so much, especially the ones by She & Him. I know some people don’t like Zooey Deschanel’s voice, but I really do appreciate it and I can relate to her vocal range and Alto quality.

There is more songs that I could add, but I could just make that into a whole other playlist. And anyway I don’t want to put too much for this post.

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

30 Days of Song: Day #13

Day: A song you like from the 70’s

I was going to change this prompt to 70s and 60s song. But that wouldn’t be fair. I managed to remember what song(s) I like from the 70’s. The 70’s is beautiful, and the fashion is amazing, I wish I could go back and steal all of my grandmothers clothes.

Superstar by The Carpenters

I have sung a cover of this song when I was in high school. One of our shows was 70’s themed and this song really stuck too me. Karen Carpenters was an amazing singer of her time, it’s so sad that she did not live all the way up to her fame. Such a beautiful and angelic soul.

Its Too Late by Carole King

and something from a cult classic musical, same director of “Carrie” 1976

Special to Me sung by Jessica Harper

WOMEN POWER!

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

30 Days of Songs: Day #12

Day 12: A song from your preteen years

What I can remember from my preteen years is listening to my mom’s burned CDs and Mixes. On one of the CDs was Death Cab For CutiesPLANS album. But i also found out that that band had a secondary band by the name The Postal Service. That is when I fell in love with this song…

The District Sleep’s Alone Tonight by The Postal Service.

I was so obsessed with this band! And as I listen to the song right now, through muscle memory I can sing all of it. On their Give Up album I pretty much know all of the songs. They’re an old band but I still love them. I think they were the first indie band that I really liked. This song brings back so many memories.

^ update below

Another song that I forgot to mention is…

Marching Band of Manhattan by Death Cab for Cutie

This is a biggie. I totally forgot this song, this one really resonates with my preteen years. Of course it is a very sad song, with the lyrics “Your Love is gonna drown”. But the beginning of the song is just so great! I could not NOT include this one.

Give it a listen, give music a chance.

30 Day’s of Songs: Day #11

Day 11: A song that you never get tired of

I have only heard this song this past year, but honestly I can listen to this over and over, or almost every week.

It is cinematically wonderful, beautiful, and it speaks out to me. I can actually listen to Mac Demarco over and over. In truth, I have listened to every single song he has made, even his demo albums. I think I have already posted this song in a previous post, in Mac and Cigs. The songs chill vibes are nice and subtle, which makes it an easy listen to hear over and over.

There is not a second song I can think of, and this was the only one I thought of off the bat.Hope you enjoy!

Give it a listen, give music a chance.
